説明
During World War II, Japanese railway soldiers constructed the 415-kilometre (215mile)Burma-Thailand railway,a very arduous task deep in rugged mountains heavily infested by cholera and tropical diseases.Building the urgently-needed railway within fifteen months was a great engineering achievement, but one accomplished at the cost of the unfortunate deaths of 12,626 prisoners of war – British, Dutch and Australian and 8600 local workers- Burmese,Thais, Tamils and others.
